Overall, this preliminary study indicates that the different environment and specimen age do not determine marked changes in hemolymphatic electrolytic levels of P. nobilis, except for the Strait of Messina area, whose high level of hydrodynamic stress might be responsible of metabolic adaptations. The physiological and metabolic status of an individual animal plays a critical role in infection and disease progression, for these reasons further studies will be necessary to understand better the relationship between the environment and physiological responses.
