A FIRST DESCRIPTION OF HAEMOCYTES OF PINNA NOBILIS
Our preliminary study allowed us to identify two main haemocyte types in haemolymph from P. nobilis. However, functional studies are also needed to clarify the role of P. nobilis haemocytes in immune responses, as already reported for other molluscs.
PINNA NOBILIS: A BIG BIVALVE WITH BIG HAEMOCYTES?
In this study, we characterised P. nobilis haemocytes from a morphological and functional point of view. Both light microscope and TEM analyses demonstrated that two main haemocyte types circulate in P. nobilis
haemolymph: granulocytes and hyalinocytes.
TRANSPLANT TRIALS OF THE FAN MUSSEL PINNA NOBILIS INSIDE THE COASTAL LAGOON OF CAPO PELORO (CENTRAL MEDITERRANEAN, ITALY)
In the present study, a robust number of fan mussel specimens were transplanted from a high-impact site to a guarded area to test the effects of transplantation on future conservation efforts.
RECRUITMENT DISRUPTION AND THE ROLE OF UNAFFECTED POPULATIONS FOR POTENTIAL RECOVERY AFTER THE PINNA NOBILIS MASS MORTALITY EVENT
A devastating mass mortality event (MME) very likely caused by the protozoan Haplosporidium pinnae first detected in 2016 in the Western Mediterranean Sea, is pushing the endemic bivalve Pinna nobilis to near extinction.
